Position description: The Counselor provides counseling to students, assessment interviews, and referrals to services. Provides training and consultation for faculty and staff around issues related to the developmental and psychological needs of college students. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The incumbent should have the ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require planning.
The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. In this capacity, they will collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent’s role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services.
Minimum requirements:
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
For Psychologists: A Ph.D./Psy.D. (or foreign equivalent) from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology program and completion of pre-doctoral internship (and obtain NY State licensure within one year of start date). A minimum of two (2) years of full-time postdoctoral work experience providing clinical services (DSM-5 intakes, emergency assessments, individual and/or group psychotherapy), clinical supervision, and/or teaching psychology.
For Social Workers: A Master of Social Work degree (foreign equivalent or higher) with a specialization in clinical social work, clinical practice or mental health, possession of state licensure (LMSW) and one (1) year of postgraduate clinical mental health work experience.
For Licensed Mental Health Counselors: A Master of Mental Health Counseling degree or related discipline, and possession of a NY State license in mental health counseling (LMHC).
