- JOB TITLE: Health Promotion Specialist
- DEPARTMENT: Alice! Health Promotion Program, Health Services at Columbia

Basic Function
As part of the Alice! Health Promotion Program team, a department of Health Services at Columbia (HSC), the Health Promotion Specialist assists with the leadership of the team that works to make the campus healthier by connecting students to information and resources, cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors, and fostering a culture that values and supports a healthy community. The Health Promotion Specialist will develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate a variety of health promotion initiatives for the campus community based on sound theory- and evidenced-informed practice of college health promotion.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, disseminate, and report on population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets of students and environmental assessments of campus community health needs and resources. Develop proposals for policy, programs and other interventions, and departmental goals and objectives based on findings.
- At the direction of the Director, Alice! Health Promotion Program, develops, coordinates, and evaluates health promotion initiatives of the Alice! Health Promotion Program. Write and submit periodic and annual reports on program progress and outcomes, including developing proposals for enhancements or changes as appropriate.
- As part of the Go Ask Alice! health question and answer Internet resource team, read question submissions, research, write, and edit answers as assigned.
- In coordination with HSC Communications Department, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate community-based health promotion and education initiatives.
- Consult with and develop collaborative programs and working relationships with numerous constituencies on campus, including but not limited to Residential Programs, Athletics and Physical Education, Columbia University schools and departments, clinical and other HSC staff, and student organizations.
- Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate interactive trainings and programs for student groups and university staff on a variety of health-related topics.
- Respond to inquiries about health information and services from students, staff and faculty, referring, when appropriate, to campus services or community organizations.
- Serve on committees and task forces as requested.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education or closely related field and 1 year of experience in college health promotion or closely related field OR Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience in college health promotion or closely related field. CHES or CPH certified or eligible (with intent to become certified). Knowledge of health promotion theory and evidence-informed practice, and ability to translate and apply that theory with a university population. Sound understanding of undergraduate and graduate students' development issues, health needs and interests, and ability to design health promotion initiatives that reflect the social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of students. Excellent and demonstrated public speaking; group facilitation; writing, editing, and communication skills are required. Experience in program development, marketing, and evaluation. Must be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational and follow-up skills. Knowledgeable in health content areas relevant to college students, including but not limited to: alcohol and other drug use and abuse prevention, fitness, nutrition, eating disorders, relationship development, sexuality, sexual health, sexual assault, and mental health issues. Some evening and weekend hours required. Strong computer skills required, including PC literacy in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn technology quickly. Familiarity with internet applications and content management systems preferred.

The Culinary Institute of America is seeking a Director of Health Services to supervise all full time, part time, and per diem RNs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises all Registered Nurses (full time, part time, and per diem) and ensures that proper procedures and protocols are followed;
- Supervises Office Supervisor and assists with supervision of office assistants;
- Coordinates and supervises scheduling of RN coverage for all shifts, meetings and activities which includes extra RN coverage for start dates, orientation, clinics, educational programs, etc.;

- Coordinates with supervisor of environmental health and safety for disposal of medical waste and sharps, as well as the Safety Department regarding ambulance calls, etc;
- Prepares yearly budget and reviews monthly budget distribution;
- Completes performance evaluations of nursing staff and office supervisor;
- Initiates monthly report for Dean of Student Affairs;
- Participates on Student Affairs Wellness Committee;
Qualifications:
- NYS Registered Nurse License required, BSN preferred;
- A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience required;
- Skilled in triage and immediate care;
- Interest in working with college students required, computer skills required;
- Ability to develop student wellness education programs to promote a healthy campus lifestyle;

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Director of Health Services – Syracuse, NY
Syracuse University, a private university situated on a beautiful residential campus in the heart of upstate New York, is seeking a highly skilled physician and astute organizational leader to serve as the Director of Health Services. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Health and Wellness, the Director will provide administrative oversight for both a comprehensive, primary care medical program, accredited by AAAHC, and the University's R.A.P.E. Center. The Director will partner with colleagues within the Health and Wellness portfolio, the Division of Student Affairs, and with other members of the University community to identify and implement strategies and practices to create a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to health and wellness on campus.
The Director will oversee a multidisciplinary team of approximately 50 Health Services staff and three R.A.P.E Center staff; establish priorities and manage a medical quality assurance and organizational assessment program; coordinate with government agencies and local health care facilities around public health issues; and manage the health services operating budget. In addition, it is expected that the Director will carry a small patient caseload.

The Director of the Crandall Health Center provides leadership for the student health services at Alfred University, including outreach to and coordination with other student affairs units and the University as a whole. Summary: Student Wellness seeks an energetic and dedicated individual to promote a culture that values and supports a healthy community and nurture attitudes and behaviors so that students can make informed decisions about their health. The recently expanded program for Wellness Education and Prevention Services is part of an integrated wellness area that includes a student health center, counseling center and nutrition services. The Department of Student Wellness is composed of a multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and consulting psychiatrists. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge about the field, show an intense passion for working with students, and exhibit excellent presentation skills. The coordinator reports to the Director for Wellness Education and Prevention Services within the Department of Student Wellness.
Description: The program coordinator is responsible for helping to increase the awareness of health related information and services that are available to promote student wellness and increase academic success at the Staten Island and Queens Campus. This includes a variety of health related issues with an emphasis on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as, sexual assault, eating disorders, relationships, and mental health. The program coordinator will also:
- Research current health, mental health, and social issues and resources
- Educate students about such issues and resources
- Provide support with the design, implementation, and evaluation of effective alcohol and other drug as well as other wellness programs.
- Collaborate with other university departments and professionals to ensure delivery of effective campus-wide health education outreach programs
- Train and supervise student groups in health education programs and services on campus
- Participate in relevant conferences and seminars through attendance and provision of presentations
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Wellness Education and Prevention Services.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required, preferably in Social Work, Health Education, Community/Public Health or Counseling, or related field
- Experience with a college student population strongly preferred
- Three to five years experience in program implementation and coordination, particularly in health education preferred
- Knowledge of current alcohol and other drug, health, mental health, and social issues on university campuses
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to collaborate with other departments
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
- Experience and skill in Microsoft Office programs

Summary: Student Wellness seeks an experienced and creative individual to provide strategic leadership to the newly expanded program for Wellness Education and Prevention Services that is part of an integrated wellness area that includes a student health center and counseling center. The Department of Student Wellness is composed of a multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and consulting psychiatrists. The successful candidate will provide the leadership, administration, vision, and strategic planning to enhance alcohol and drug education and prevention; mental health education and awareness; health education, and general wellness programming. The Director will oversee development, implementation, and assessment of wellness education and prevention programming university–wide. This position reports to the Executive Director for Student Wellness within the Division of Student Affairs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Alcohol and Other Drug intervention, Public Health, Health Education, Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, or related field. Ph.D. preferred.
- A strong background in alcohol and other drug education.
- Three or more years experience working in AOD prevention, wellness, or health promotion programs preferably in a college/university setting.
- Demonstrated competency with harm reduction, multisystemic interventions, and motivational interviewing.
- Experience with program assessment and data analysis.
- Excellent presentation skills, written skills and interpersonal skills.
- Grant writing and grant management skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strong and effective leadership in the development and implementation of programs and interventions that address student-related AOD issues, mental health education, and health education.
- Programs should include the best practices in education and prevention efforts and intervention strategies.
- Director should enhance initiatives that will focus on expanded peer education and effective outreach strategies for prevention, education, student engagement, and harm reduction.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services, educational programs, initiatives, and interventions.
- Serve on University committees as needed
- Be prepared to manage area budget.
- Supervision of two coordinators is required.
